My artwork captures the haunting beauty and history of this once-thriving industrial space, intertwining it´s story with the surrounding natural landscape. Through my lens, I aim to show how time and nature have reclaimed this piece of Orbetello’s history, offering a new perspective on it´s potential rebirth.
All images are presented unretouched, using only a custom filter designed by the artist, while selected works incorporate mirroring or multiple exposures.
FABBRICA NATURALE edition.
The abandoned Sitoco factory in Orbetello, Italy, has become a powerful symbol of industrial decay and resilience. Originally founded in 1908, this factory produced chemical fertilizers for nearly a century before it shut down in 1991. Since then, the site has been left largely untouched, with it´s rusting structures and environmental challenges standing in stark contrast to the surrounding beauty of the Orbetello Lagoon. The area, known for its flamingos and unique ecosystem, amplifies the sense of urgency for revitalization.
Over the years, many proposals have been made to redevelop the site into residential spaces, hotels, or even cultural centers, but due to complex ownership issues and lingering pollution, progress has stalled. In 2018, a state-funded cleanup began to address hazardous materials such as asbestos. Despite these efforts, the future of this iconic site remains uncertain.
